Ingredients

Vazhaipoo (Banana Flower)  

A medium sized  finely chopped( kindly see the video on how to clean the Vazhaipoo (Banana Flower) and then chop it finely)

Chana Dhal - 400 Grams soaked for 3-4 hours

Dried Red Chillies - 5 in number 

Fennel Seeds - 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Shallots - 20 in number, finely chopped

Curry Leaves - 10 in number, finely chopped

Oil for frying


Instructions

- Take a handful of soaked gram dhal and keep aside

- Grind the rest of the soaked dhal along with red chillies, fennel seeds and salt to a coarse paste. Do not add water while grinding

- Transfer to a bowl and add the soaked gram dhal that you have kept aside to the coarse paste

- Add the finely chopped Vazhaipoo (Banana Flower), shallots and curry leaves

- Can also add finely chopped coriander leaves for extra taste (optional)

- Now the mix is ready for making Vadai


- Heat oil in a pan for deep frying

- Once the oil is heated, make patties out of the mix and drop in the oil carefully and cook until golden brown. You can drop 5-6 patties at a time according to your pan size

- Once cooked, drain on to a kitchen towel.

- Wow!! Yummy vadai is ready to be served with coconut or mint chutney.
